Summit Highlights

Organizational Excellence

  1. Workforce relevancy: Through the use of cohorts, and support for supervisors, create an inclusive environment where diverse and mid-career recruits can succeed and thrive in the agency, and serve as the ambassadors for more to come.
  2. High Performing Teams; Focusing on high performance individuals and leaders is an illusion when you think about organizational success, and creating high performing teams is a more successful formula. An important role of the leader is to build a high performing team, and that is where innovation happens.
  3. Network skillset that builds on partnership skillset: We all need to build the skillset of working in networks, as opposed to just partnerships. Fundamental to this is that NPS cannot always be the dominant partner, and that relationships will be about more than just the financial contribution of the partner.
  4. Investing in employees: The organization should build the skills of employees in order to authentically engage, empower, and support themselves, fellow staffs and parks.

Also please indicate which actions are of the highest priority and which actions the group you represent is willing to take on as a priority.

Wouldn't this be a terric place/opportunity to take advantage of our military folks who are looking for a place to share their incredible resources and experience?

A part of organizational excellence should be a shared bold vision for the future of the National Park System and the National Park Service. For several decades, that vision has been one of a stagnant System with limited resources. The focus on partnerships, networks, etc. is fine, but the bigger need is for the National Park Service to provide leadership for the restoration, protection, interpretation, and public enjoyment of America's greatest natural and cultural treasures. This includes a major expansion of the National Park System. This is a vision that could inspire and energize a dispirited but still committed National Park Service.
